I sometimes get emails from readers asking permission to repost some of my content on their own blogs. While I am flattered that you love my content enough to do so, I cannot allow you to simply copy my work word-for-word and repost it elsewhere. I put several hours of work into every blog post. I can’t just go around letting other people copy it. Sorry. This is a legal issue. The moment I start letting people repost my original content everywhere, I lose my claim to the copyrights of my work.
But I really want to share your content with my readers. How can I repost your content legally?
There is a very simple legal way to share what you learn from my blog with your own readers; write your own blog post. Put what you have learned in your own words. You can even reference a few block quotes from my original article as long as you credit me for the original content and provide a backlink to my original work. Keep in mind that, as a general rule, direct quotations from original sources should never comprise more than 10% of your article. All backlinks to my blog must be marked as ‘follow’ links. If you only backlink with ‘no follow’ links you will likely get a politely worded email from me asking you to please switch the backlink to ‘follow’.
